Cassia Severa, the year
Marcus Atilius and
Annius Gallus were
consuls in Rome, in 108 AD. The
kernophorae were women and girls who, as priestesses in ritual processions to the goddess, carried the
kernos upon their heads, a recipient specific for substances used in the libation rituals (pouring pure water, perfume, olive oil, milk, honey) and fumigation rituals (burning aromatic herbs and incense).
