Epitaph for Creusa

Epitaph for Creusa, slave of Avita, buried at the age of 16, engraved upon a plaque found during the 1961-1962 archaeological campaign, in Praça da Figueira. Notably, this inscription memorailizes the earthly passage of a slave, certainly quite beloved by her owner. The plaque very likely integrated a collective funerary monument and was affixed to the wall of some
mausoleum
, or served as lid for a niche in some
columbarium
(monument with a number a niches where lay the urns with the ashes of the deceased).
